Vila Franca islet is located in Vila Franca do Campo municipality, on the south coast of the island. It is a small volcanic islet, about 500 meters from the coast of Vila Franca, and 1200 meters from the Tagarete pier, in the center of the village. From this port, there are regular connections with the islet during the bathing season.
For centuries it has been touted as the ideal place for the construction of a sheltered port, studies and projects have been carried out for this purpose, the last of which was around 1840. The idea was only definitely abandoned with the construction of the port of Ponta Delgada.
