The Azores Volcanological and Geothermal Observatory is a non-profit geological association dedicated to the dissemination of volcanology, seismology, geothermal and geoenvironmental, particularly those of the Azores. In addition to the scientific dissemination activities for the school environment and the general public, OVGA, by statute, inserts some scientific research laboratories, in cooperation with national and foreign entities.
OVGA is also an editorial entity of thematic cartography, brochures and of dissemination and research books. Also, it develops scientific activities throughout Macaronesia and in other countries known for their "vulcanogeothermic" problems. The OVGA is partially sponsored by the Municipality of Lagoa and is part of the Network of Science Centers of the Regional Secretariat of the Sea, Science and Technology.
