Pico do Paul Viewpoint lies in the western interior of São Miguel on high ground near the Empadadas recreational forest. In clear conditions, its position reveals sections of both the north and south coasts, the Água de Pau massif and mountains crossing the island's interior. The surrounding forest and nearby Empadadas and Rasa lagoons add to the landscape interest of the area.
Access uses upland roads and tracks exposed to fog, rain and wind. Visibility can disappear quickly, so drive slowly and avoid soft verges or stopping where the road is obstructed. There is no ticketing or formal timetable, but visiting in daylight is safer. Respect barriers and forest rules, remain on established routes, do not collect plants and remove all waste. In winter or after severe weather, check road and access conditions before travelling.
