The Whaling Museum at Lajes do Pico, the only one in Portugal specializing in artisanal whaling, seasonal and coastal, and the most visited of the Azores, in addition to the Whaling Industry Museum, is the only museum structure in the Region with potential to become a privileged space for a global explanation of Azorean whaling.
The museum building, whose covered area is around 2000 m2, consists of a set of three Whaling Boats of the century XIX, complemented by an attached blacksmith's tent, integrated into a newly built body - strongly marked by an American whaling-inspired architecture - which houses an archive and a library specializing in the whaling theme; an area for reception and sales, Temporary Exhibitions Gallery, Educational Services, Photographic Archive, Management and Technical and Administrative Services; an auditorium, modernly equipped.
