Located in the north shore of São Miguel Island in the Azores, the Costa Norte – Atlantic North Shore Guest House sits on the historic town center of Ribeira Grande, home of the ASP Women’s CT and Men’s QS Prime and 6 Stars events in the last years. In recent years the town embraced its beachfront creating beach facilities in Santa Barbara beach and planning for more in Monte Verde beach in the coming years.
These are the two longest sand beach extensions in the Azores archipelago where several breaks arise with great surfing conditions. Ribeira Grande is quite a peaceful town with no traffic jams and no huge crowds though having all of the essential services. This is due to its main activities being agriculture, fishing and some industry. Costa Norte – Atlantic North Shore Lodge sits on the corner of Rua de Santa Luzia and Largo Gaspar Frutuoso, this square is right next to the town center but quieter.
The town center itself, Largo 5 de Outubro, has the Town Hall and the Theater on each riverside with a really nice garden alongside the river up to its mouth. The city center has a great deal of built heritage with its several churches and buildings, with the biggest church, Igreja Matriz, neighbouring our lodge.
References to the local architectural style - Micaelense is to be found all over and also a gothic style window in the city hall building. The ideas behind creating this lodge were to add lodging possibilities which were lacking in this town and provide a chilled and comfortable place on a beautiful historic town center nearby the best surfing spots on the island.
